Actions, Decisons, Consequences, Accountability
Would you agree that most people, when they make decisions, and act on those decision, try to think about the short and long-term consequences? And, would you also agree, that most people will think harder or less hard depending on the potential for there to be consequences? Decisions made and actions taken years ago may not have any consequenses at the time the decisions were made and/or actions were taken, just as a decison made or action taken today may not have any consequenses today.
Now, lets say that a particular decision is acted upon, something monumental, say like… a decision to go to war in IRAQ or Afghanistan, or maybe like making a decision to provide wealthy people with Tax Credits because the country currently has a budget surplus. I think you know where I am going with this. I am talking about the George W. Bush administration. This blog is not so much about the decisions and actions of GWB, but the belief, by some, that because they did not have immediate consequenses that the GWB adminstration is not responsible and should take no responsibility. I, on the other hand, believe that the ultimate consequences, beit the economy or the loss of many lives, should be retroactively placed on the people that made the decisons. I also belive that many would agree with me if this was a political issue and it was the other party that was in question. It is clear that politicians will basically say anything and rewrite history to suit his/her immediate need.
Today the unemployment rate went down again for the 4th month in a row, and the number of new jobs increased by 200K up from the expected 150k. It has been 3 years since President Obama has taken office, and he and his adminstration have made many decisions. Could this current situation be because of what President Obama’s adminstration has done today? Or, is it a result of what has been happening over the past 3 years. I believe that, it is in part to many things in and outside the control of the current adminstration but I do believe that the policy and legislation has helped the country move in the right direction. Stimulus, healthcare legislation, executive orders, and recess appointments made in the last 3 years look to be helping in many ways even though there are some that feel that all of that was wrong. Time has told a different story if you look at the trend.
I don’t know what is going to happen in the future, but I do know that what ever is going on today won’t impact us today but will surely impact us eventually. And when it does I would like to hold the people making decisions today accountable for those descisions regardless of his/her political affiliation.
